But it was getting dark. And a light snow was falling. They’d have to get somewhere safe. Soon.

“Come on guys,” Ash said, standing up. “Let’s get out of here.”

Ash, Pikachu, and Chikorita walked through the trees. In the distance, Ash could see a small cave in the side of the mountain.

“Let’s head over there,” Ash said.

Pikachu followed Ash. But Chikorita stopped in its tracks.

Ash could tell Chikorita still didn’t trust him.

“It’s okay,” Ash told it. “I’m not going to try to capture you. We need to get to that cave so we’ll be safe.”

But Chikorita didn’t believe him.

“Chika!” The Leaf Pokémon turned around and ran off into the woods.

“Pikachu?” Pikachu wondered what they should do.

“Let’s go to the cave,” Ash said, as snow piled on his shoulders. “Maybe Chikorita will change its mind.”

Ash and Pikachu hurried to the cave. Ash found enough twigs and debris to make a small fire. The flame warmed his cold fingers and toes. But he didn’t feel much better.
